A Man with Promiscous Vission....

Just got a quick email from Richard "Humpty" Vission he has a couple of great banging 4 on the floor remixes all set for the crowds already pouring into Ibiza and Miami and anywhere else people fancy dancing I assume!!

Both are sure to be huge, first is his mix of Gnarls Barkley -Crazy

the second titled "Promiscous Vission" is a killer mix of Nelly Furtado's "Promicuos" which he dropped at Soulmatic in LA the other night..

I of course avoided any comments about the alternative title for the Nelly Furtado mix which would involve the often used shortening of Richard's first name and the song title, as that would just be rude wouldn't it?

Yellow Fever

OK so I know I'm a little late on this as it came out in June on Essay Records, but this is the funniest thing I've heard in ages. Señor Coconut and his Orchestra (feat. Argenis Brito) "Yellow Fever" is amazing... after his avant garde excursions into laptop salsa and acid-merengue Kraftwerk style he's back paying homage to Yellow Magic Orchestra (thanks to my mate Alex for the heads up on this) what's even more bizarre is that he has the original YMO members guesting on the album!!!

Matt Drudge and Zune

As I'm here in LA packing for my move to Seattle I'm reduced to using some of my neighbors wifi bandwidth to communicate (no speakers on my old laptop so I can't even listen to music) and listening to a crappy old AM radio while I melt in the 100 plus heat here (so hot and humid, weird lightening has apparently killed MySpace for a while) Anyway for some reason I've found myself listening to Matt Drudge who amongst other things mentioned Zune in passing... for me at least a very strange moment as until days ago this was not even spoken of in the corridors of Redmond .. now it's on national radio, I figured I'd share!

Oh and just FYI as I'm moving, for those that wish direct contact I will be passing on a contact email addy and getting back to you as I can, but probably not until later in the week.. l8t

Bugz hit the streets

The lead single for Bugz in the Attic's long anticipated debut full-length hit the streets in mid-July. Entitled "Move Aside," its combination of raw breaks and sweet vocals has drawn comparison to Amerie's "1 Thing." Blossoming producer Sinden turns in the roughest remix. My money's on Sinden in the coming year - watch this space!

"Back in the Doghouse," the full-length album, is now released in the UK on V2. I don't know if we can expect a stateside release, but these two tunes are absolutely killing me right now:

"Worla Hurt"
"Knocks Me Off My Feet"

Hot this year!

Originally produced by Bobby Digital and released on his Digital B imprint in 1992, Dirtsman's classic "Hot This Year" gets a timely reissue on Tuff Gong (of all places!). I'm incredibly excited about this, as it's another hot tune from my youth that has been out of my grasp on 7" for some time. Needless to say, I'm stoked to have it in my possession.

A year after "Hot This Year" was released, Dirtsman's dancehall ascendance was cut short when he was robbed and killed in Spanish Town. A trend that happened all too often on the Kingston scene of the '80s and '90s.

Alongside the Tuff Gong reissue of "Hot This Year" come some hot contributions from Buju, Chaka, and Pinchers. Buju and Chaka kill it; Pinchers is for the lovers.

It appears the tunes from Buju, Chaka, Pinchers, Cocoa Tea, etc. are newly voiced, though they ride the 1992 riddim.

I’m with Zune

Hey there!

So as the curtain is being raised over here in Redmond today (well at least a peek under the corner is happening) I figured it was time to step out of the shadows and declare “I’m Richard Winn and I’m with Zune.”

Phew that feels better!! Seriously though, here’s the deal. I hope to develop MadisonandPine.com as the inside track on music stuff going on around Zune, as you can probably imagine there’s tons of stuff coming and hopefully  feedback, direction and ideas from this blog will play a part of the future of Zune. What I’m not going to do here is talk about technical stuff in any detail, one of my mates working here Cesar also has a blog about Zune “ZuneInsider.com”  he too is mad for the music, but has a better understanding of the device and the service. Strangely as I’m disclosing this, X-Ray Spex “Identity” just started playing, weird!!! More as I know more…

Airport bloggin & Giant Village

Ahh the wonders of technology... as I'm sitting here waiting to hop on the plane to NY I get an update from my mates at LA's Monday Night Social telling me that Giant Village is on this weekend in LA. Many of you from LA may remember this event was supposed to have happened at New Year but was rained off at the last minute... well here it is summer time and the bill is large!

Deep Dish, Jason Bentley, Paul Oakenfold, John Digweed, Jimmy Van M, Mark Farina and The Crystal Method amongst many others all on the streets of LA!!! Nice... and guess where I am this weekend?  lucky me
